After numerous technical issues, I finally worked out the ways and means behind setting up my blog and due to much harassing have finally arrived in cyberspace for all your enjoyment (not that I'm expecting many readers!)
To those who don't know the reason behind setting up this blog, as the name suggests, it is a way to communicate my adventures in a pending trip to America.
A little background information to myself would be helpful to understand the reasons behind the trip and the reasons behind many of my musings that will probably come up in many of my posts. I have recently graduated from the University of Aberdeen with a 2:1 degree in Philosophy, an achievement that proves to be a milestone for myself, however society declares otherwise and 'degrees seem utterly useless' (a view that I get told on a day to day basis - a rant for another time perhaps). During the run up to final exams, cabin fever set in and the need for an epic adventure became unbearable and after much persuasion by my travelling partner, in a drunken haze booked a spontaneous flight to New York. The date cannot yet be published due to work commitments however the countdown has begun. The trip should last approximately 22 weeks and will be one hell of an adventure from New York to LA.
One never thinks about how many small details need to be organised before setting off on a trip like this and it is often not publicised how to go about sorting them out before embarking on ones journey. This is one of the reasons I have been pushed into beginning my blog a few months early along with the fact that many of my friends are missing my awkward encounters in life which will inevitably be a main feature within these ramblings.
To fund the trip I am currently working two jobs, one on the shop floor of the Co-operative and another in a pub as bar/waitress/kitchen staff, when I am not in one, I am in the other. Neither are Jobs of choice as I'm sure you can imagine, however the people I work with make the jobs just about bearable and needs must for such an epic trip.
For now I will leave you with that.
Enjoy.
